Fishing Rod

A fishing rod is a long, flexible fly fishing rod used to catch fish. At its simplest, a fishing rod is a simple stay or pole attached to a line ending in a fishing hook (formerly known as an direction, hence the term angling). The length of the rod can vary between 2 and 20 ft (0. 61 and 6. 10 m). To attract fish, bait or tackle are impaled on one or maybe more hooks attached to the line. The line is generally stored on a reel which reduces tangles and assists in landing a fish.

Traditionally rods are made of bamboo, while contemporary supports are usually made from fibreglass or perhaps carbon fibre. In contrast with nets, which are usually used in subsistence and commercial fishing, reef fishing rods are more often used in recreational fishing and competitive casting. Fishing rods come in many sizes, actions, lengths and configurations depending on whether they are to be used for small , medium or large fish or perhaps in different fresh or sodium water situations. Various types of fishing rods are designed for certain types of fishing. Take flight rods are used to cast manufactured flies, spinning rods and bait casting rods are made to cast baits or lures. Ice fishing rods are created to fish through small gaps in ice covered ponds. Trolling rods are designed to move bait or lures behind moving boats.

The ability of fly fishing took a great leap forward after the English Civil Battle, where a newly found desire for the activity left its make on the many books and treatises that were written on the subject at the time. The renowned expert in the Parliamentary army, Robert Venables, published in 1662 The Experienced Angler, or Sportfishing improved, being a general talk of angling, imparting lots of the aptest ways and best experiments for the taking of most sorts of fish in pond or river.[1] Compleat Angler was written by Izaak Walton in 1653 (although Walton continued to add to it for a one fourth of a century) and described the fishing in the Derbyshire Wye. It was a party of the art and heart of fishing in consignée and verse; six verses were quoted from David Dennys's earlier work. Another part to the book was added by Walton's good friend Charles Cotton.[1]

The 18th century was mainly an era of consolidation of the techniques produced in the previous century. Running wedding rings began to appear along the fishing rods, which gave anglers greater control over the solid line. The rods themselves were also becoming increasingly sophisticated and specialized for different roles. Jointed rods became common in the middle of the century and bamboo bedding came to be used for the top area of the rod, giving it a much greater strength and flexibility.

The market also became commercialized -- rods and tackle had been sold at the haberdashers store. After the Great Fire of London in 1666, merchants moved to Redditch which started to be a centre of development of fishing related products from the 1730s. Onesimus Ustonson established his trading store in 1761, and his establishment remained as a market innovator for the next century. He received a Royal Warrant coming from three successive monarchs starting with King George IV.[2]

Theoretically, an ideal rod should steadily taper from butt to tip, be tight in all its joints (if any), and possess a smooth, progressive taper, without 'dead spots'. Modern design and fabrication techniques, along with advanced materials such as graphite, boron and fiber glass composites as well as stainless steel(see Emmrod)- have allowed rod makers to tailor the two shape and action of fishing rods for greater casting distance, accuracy, and fish-fighting qualities. Today, fishing rods are identified by way of a weight (meaning the pounds of line or bait required to flex a fully charged rod) and action (describing the speed with which the rod returns to its natural position).

Generally there are three types of rods utilized today graphite, fiberglass, and bamboo rods. Bamboo the fishing rod are the heaviest of the three, but people still use it for its feel. Fiberglass rods are the heaviest of the fresh chemically-made material rods. They can be mostly popular with the new and young anglers, as well as fishermen who cannot afford the generally more expensive graphite rods. They are more commonly found among those fishermen that fish in rugged areas such as on boulders or piers where trashing the rod on hard objects is a greater probability. This may potentially cause the break point, making a fiberglass stick preferable for some anglers because of higher durability and cost compared to graphite rods. Current day's most popular rod is frequently graphite for its light weight attributes and its ability to allow for even more and more accurate cast.[7][8] Graphite rods tend to be more sensitive, allowing you feel bites from fish easier.

Modern fishing fishing rods retain cork as a typical substance for grips. Cork is light, durable, keeps warm and tends to transmit stick vibrations better than synthetic supplies, although EVA foam is usually used. Reel seats are usually of graphite-reinforced plastic, aluminum, or wood. Guides can be found in steel and titanium which has a wide variety of high-tech metal alloy inserts replacing the classic agate inserts of earlier the fishing rod.

Back- or butt-rests may also be used with modern fishing supports to make it easier to pull big seafood off the water. These are fork-like supports that help keep the rod in position, providing leveraging and counteracting tensions caused by a caught fish.
